The Life I Have Decided to Live

I was tired of always doing ‘what I had to do,’ and not having time to do the things I wanted to do. For a long time, my most ardent desire was to organize my life in such a way that I could have plenty of time, every day, to do what I love to do. So I paused to ponder on important questions, such as, “At this stage of my life, what is really important? What is my purpose in this life, and what are the best contributions I can give? What are the most important relationships in my life, and am I giving them my attention? What do I love? What am I passionate about? What do I like to do? What do I really want to do? How does an ideal day look like for me? How shall I live, knowing that I will die?”

As a result of this process, I took steps to simplify my life, and got rid of the things that prevented me from doing what I considered important and pleasant. I now live a much simpler, uncomplicated life that gives me plenty of time to do the things I want to do, and I calmly say “No” to what is unimportant and unpleasant, without feeling the slightest guilt about it.

Without the pressures of the ‘have-to-dos,’ I now have more time to notice and appreciate all the magic, mystery, and miracles that surround me. I am in awe with the splendor of the Universe, and grateful for everyone and everything in it. I realize how blessed I am, and give thanks all the time for all the gifts that were freely given to me. By becoming aware of this abundant wellspring of blessings, I am more optimistic and generous. And by sharing what was given to me — by being of service to others, and helping them enhance the quality of their lives — I experience bliss. Seeing people happy, makes me happy.

I’m fortunate. I feel I am doing what I came here to do. I do what I like, and I like what I do. Life is good!
