Do you want to be happy? OK, here’s the formula, and it’s quite simple.
There are three things that you must do to achieve happiness:
First, be grateful.
Second, be grateful.
Third, be grateful.
By doing so, suddenly, you will experience happiness. And then, you will be grateful because you are happy. And then, you will realize that you are happy because you are grateful.
It is by practicing gratefulness that we achieve happiness. Or, as my friend, Brother David Steindl-Rast puts it, “In daily life we must see that it is not happiness that makes us grateful, but gratefulness that makes us happy.”
So, if you want to be happy, the first thing you have to do is to give thanks. The second thing is to give thanks. And the third thing is to give thanks.
