Songs are powerful tools to communicate ideas, and I give credit to Paul, Sir Paul McCartney, who wrote a phrase that has touched millions… “And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make.” (*) Such a simple and, at the same time, profound truth. I believe in it. Actually, I believe that you always get much more than you give.
To that respect, Jesus said, two thousand years ago, “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full–pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” Yes; the amount of love you’ll take will be determined by the amount of love you’ve made.
Everybody wants to be loved. Everybody longs for love… but how do we get it? Well, the recipe is quite simple, and you may say, even counter-intuitive: if you want to be loved, love. If you want to get love, give it, because it is by giving that you will receive.
Mother Teresa encouraged us to give, give, give, and continue giving… until it hurts.
Yes, what goes around, comes around. The Circle of Life. Cause and effect. Action and consequences. Do good, and good will flow back to you. I believe this. And if you do bad, bad will come back to haunt you. I believe this, too. And, yes, if you are wondering, we are still talking about Karma. We reap what we sow. It is by planting seeds of love, and lovingly tending the plants as they grow, that we will enjoy fruits of love.
Pay it forward. Whatever good I may have done for you, do it for someone else. You don’t need to pay me, but make sure to be good with whoever needs your generosity, kindness, patience, love and forgiveness, which, by the way, is everyone you meet. If you have hurt someone in the past, heal the wounds of the person who is in front of you now. Give of yourself to whomever may be with you at any given time.
Smile. Praise. Love. Care. Share. Be kind. Be generous. Be patient. Be compassionate. Be forgiving.
Give, give, give, and continue giving, until it hurts! And, suddenly, it will stop hurting, and will become pure joy: the joy of giving and receiving.
